Yep I am interested too. It must be horrible growing up gay as a witness...or good because of the window shopping during meetings. There were never any girls in the halls I went too.

That sucks. My parents haven't said word one about it to me. Then again I told them point blank I would never step foot in a Kingdom Hall again until the Society issues an apology over the molestation scandel.

Burger Time you say what is the difference in other religions? First of all you need to get out more. the difference is that if you decide to leave Baptist or Catholics they dont care. meaning they dont want to see you lost but they wont try to hunt you down, shun you, or call you an apostate. what you believe is your business and nobody tries to force you to believe anything. The Bible teaches we should all believe alike but how easy is that to do? you dont get upset with someone because they dont believe what you believe. That happened to me. I can only believe what my mind allows me to believe. no one can make you believe something. Only God can put something in your heart that is truth that you see. a man cant do that!
So if you are Catholic your allowed to go to church and teach that Mary should not be prayed to? Your allowed to go to a Baptist church and preach to members that hell does not exist. See how long it takes to be asked to leave. You may not be "branded" but you will definitely be avoided for doing such things in any church or religion. I will give you the fact that the dubs do this over very minor issues but that will change the bigger they get. Remember the Catholic church didn't stop their excommunication practices until 1983! So was it a cult up until 1983? It expected you to follow certain doctrines, and practices and used just as much loaded language. It was more lax then the dubs for sure but you had the basic outline and principles still there. I know this is a bit of a red herring but I'm just saying that I don't feel the dubs are a typical Cult. The best explanation I have heard is that they are somewhere in the middle. I think a lot of people who brand them a cult have strong emotional reasons to do so.

I forgot that you are not allowed to have a differing opinion on this forum. As long as I am drinking the majority Kool-Aid, it's better then drinking the other guys Kool-Aid.

So -- who (or what) is this "Jehovah," anyway?
by Nathan Natas ini've been reading some of the posts here, and i notice a significant number of them make reference to "jehovah" or something called "jehovah's witnesses.
although i attended the kingdom hall services for more than 20 years, i can't say i'm familiar with the term.
could someone enlighten me?

Again I said for some it does and in fact for most it probably does. But this isn't forcing damage.

Nope Sacolton I am not convinced, perhaps it is a generational thing but I do not see them as a conventional cult. By your definition every religion is a cult (which probably is true) but if your talking about a "true" cult that society labels as such I don't believe it is. Scientology? Yes. Dubs, no. You can still disagree with some things in dubland even some major things, they just don't want you broadcasting it out to everyone you know. How is this different from Catholicism, Hindu's or Baptists?

Sorry. the only element I find of the dubs that is overly cultish is dissfellowshipping, but I am still not buying the dubs are a cult. Quite honestly you lost me when you drew a red herring with Scientology. Scientologists actually take time to destroy people's lives when they leave. Dubs just ignore the person(s), while this might cause emotional damage to most it is far from forcing physical and emotional damage on them. The media and our country do almost 90% of those things you mentioned too.
